Background
I have been doing commercial photography and design for over eight years in the UK and USA. A good portion of this work has been in the music sector. This has given me access to some of the best studios, engineers, producers and artists in the world.

As a music lover and musician myself, I always took this time to learn from the best of the best.

Applying these experiences to my own band has allowed me to expand my knowledge even further. I have a very practical and down-to-earth approach balanced with a passion for music that allows me to focus on what a band wants to communicate.

Gradually, more and more of my work has drifted into music production as my songs have gotten playlisted on radio stations and labels and bands have heard my songs.

Depending on your budget or on your production needs we can track your whole project at my project studio or track drums with scratch guitars and vocals in a commercial studio of your choice and then track the guitars and vocals at my place or any variation of this

Some important things to know about me and what I think:

1. A great performance is the cornerstone of a great recording.

2. I believe that getting the right sound and performance into the desk in the first place is far better than the attitude of "we'll fix that later. If you want thundering toms, we will move mics around and do what it takes to get that onto tape.

3. I do not use compression for recording vocals. Its lazy and reflects lack of understanding of how modern recording systems work.

4. I don't work to cliches. Each project is produced to give you your unique voice. Sure, I understand what is happening now and I dig all the classic albums but I want you to stand out too and I want your album to have "legs", that is copying the latest fad will only date you a year later. You have something to say and your production should reflect that.

5. A great rock recording has attitude, swagger and passion. This means we are not going to layer 39 takes of your rythym guitar to "make it sound beefy". I have seen so many great bands live that have released the most lifeless "properly" recorded studio albums. Its a crime.

6. This is a creative process, that means we will expirement and fuck shit up and push the envelope. One of the reasons I got into recording was after fighting with a producer who wanted to take my guitar feedback out of a mix.

I prefer to work between London and San Francisco.

Project 1
I have been producing songs for London punk band, Son of Nothing. The sessions have been a lot of fun. Have a listen to Expose/Reload and I F H Y. Also, if you like your punk hard and loud try Can't Complain. This is quite an abrasive mix!

Two of the songs we have finished have been included on the soundtrack album of an upcoming motion picture.. Visit their website for more details.

Some early reviews:

The new Black Velvet - issue 44 with My Chemical Romance on the cover - is out now with a Son Of Nothing review in the demos section. Check it out.

From The Dukester zine: Two thirds of this demo I thought this group had traveled through time from 1978 to try and make it as a typical punk band in modern times. That's what I hear: a real punk sound that hadn't lost any vigor through the ages since then, the commercialism of recent times and without any middle-age spread or having calmed down. "Expose/Reload" is just that but with a middle section of build, suspense and prog-rock aesthetic that the band boast to include in their repertoire, while "I.F.H.Y." (guess what it stands for) is midpace then fast then back and forth to make an enjoyable and less predictable tune out of aforementioned-expected anger you'd expect. "Breakdown" starts with a few guitar licks you'd more likely hear in a rock n' roll outfit (something this band bring to the party pretty darn well too), positive to the ears but sung through gritted teeth. If half the Sex Pistols went rock n' roll, this is the product. Download all tracks from http://www.sonofnothing.co.uk/

Project 2
Corona Sun is a London-based band. We recorded 3 songs over a couple of days with a further couple of days spent editing midi data and mixing.

Listen to Heroine Rose.Bass guitar was done in 1 take. Guitar was done in 2 takes; 1 take for the clean guitar section and 1 take for the distorted section. It rocks. no need to double anything here! The drums were a much more complicated process. I'll write more about this when time allows.

These are un-mastered rough mixes. I have one last session to do the final mix and the tracks are off to the mastering studio in Seattle.

Corona Sun are in the process of getting their web site online.

Project 3
I have also been producing songs for London-based band, Waiting for the Ice Age. Not only is the music creating a stir, but the web site is getting raves too! Check out their website for audio samples.

When I heard this band live I was impressed with their energy and chops. I love the attitude and vibe of the bass riffs. They are so classic in a Joy Division kind of way yet coupled with the amazing drumming its all just a little bit more aggressive. The guitar playing and vocals are also classic yet raw and fresh.
